The Deal & Walmer Wheelers meet on a regular basis for the pleasure of cycling through the local Kent countryside with fellow cycle enthusiasts. Some of us are members of the “Cycling UK” touring club (previously known as the “Cycle Touring Club” or “CTC”), and take an active part in wider activities, whilst others simply meet on a Saturday for the weekly ride. We aim to cater for both types of cyclist, and we never leave anyone behind.
We recommend that riders carry with them, on all rides: two spare inner tubes suitable for their bike, tyre levers,a pump, a drink, a packable waterproof jacket, and sufficient money in case of emergency.Generally, we meet with group members for mid-week and Saturday rides. We are open to route or club-related event requests and tend to appoint individual riders to lead the ride, depending on knowledge and experience. Beginners are encouraged to ride in our 3-4 hour events, which we are happy to accommodate with a planned fitness programme. For people who prefer shorter rides, we also meet on Mondays for an easy ride, with as few hills as possible, typically around 25- 30 miles in length.
As requested by a number of our weekend riders, Saturday rides will be more challenging, with more hills, and moving along at a faster pace. We will also run a slower group, on the same day, which should cater for most needs.
For all rides, the group meets at 9am at the Walmer Lifeboat House and generally schedule a mid-morning coffee and sandwich break before heading home.
We will update our events calendar periodically, but please feel free to contact us for any information.
